: Objective 7 - Show Compassion The Joyless Machine ("Gary")
This riddle is about "Gary", the forlorn robot or mechanical companion located in the spawn area. The mmoset challenge is cheering up this joyless robot by giving presents. How do you do it? By feeding it zombie drops. Gary must be able to collect Holiday Presents from zombies.
Here's how to do it:
Equip Cryofreeze Ammo Mod on your Weapon if you've not already done so (or make a new weapon from Cryofreeze). Cryofreeze will freeze zombies and cause them to drop gifts.
Gary should be located at spawn. He looks like a sad animatronic. If you approach him, he may not react until he sees you giving him gifts.
Cryofreeze is a great way to get rid of zombies around Gary. You can drop a present on the ground if you kill a Zombie with Cryofreeze. Gary has to find these presents.
Gary will immediately "consume". This makes him feel a little happier.
You have to give Gary enough presents for him to be satisfied. It could take a few gifts (exact amount unknown, perhaps 5-10). The problem is twofold: you have to get the presents to fall, while also surviving a zombie assault.
You are on your own: this step is exhausting. This is probably round 30 and there are a lot more zombies. Gary can be kept in the loop by training the horde near the spawn zone. Use a Cryofreeze gun to chip away on the train. Cryo kills will only count towards the present, so make sure that the killing blow comes from the freeze effects or the bullet when they are frozen. There may be snowballs in the map. Sometimes winter events will have snowballs you can throw that work like frost bombs. Snowballs are also counted as present drops. So, if they're available, you should use them to get a slow and easy kill. Gary will be able to roll right over the present if you loop immediately near it. Because he's not fast or moves randomly, it can be hard to get Gary to pick up a gift. Drop the gifts near him. If he's wandering around, bring the zombie train to him, kill some nearby, and then hope the gift will appear at his feet.
It's much easier to do this with friends. Let one player kite a last zombie or small group of zombies in a single round, while the other player Cryofreezes them one by one near Gary. Run trains and drop presents in turns. Cryofreeze gun production increases with the number of players. This could lead to faster present harvesting. Too many zombies in Gary's region can be overwhelming. While you are grinding out the presents, it might be helpful to leave a small number of zombies (e.g. It might help to keep only a few zombies alive while you grind out the gifts (e.g.
Troubleshooting. At first you may have been confused as to what action to take. Do I give him anything?" The trick was found: "We've got to put Cryofreeze into our gun and Gary has to pick up gifts that zombies drop...Zombies will drop present. Bada bing, bada boom. Gary grabs them, he’s happy." If you don't see anything, make sure that Cryo mod is enabled and that Gary is in the vicinity. If the presents don't appear, you can kill more zombies. If Gary isn’t picking up the presents, try guiding him over the box. You should also keep an eye on Gary, as he might wander from spawn.
Finish this goal when Gary is satisfied with his holiday cheer. You'll get feedback like, "Even the dead feel joy," or that you showed compassion. Gary's and your job for the major challenges is done. All primary challenges of the Listkeeper Challenge were completed. The grand finale is now the boss battle.
(You might be wondering if the reward for this step is a camo. It's more likely that this is part of a larger chain leading to Infestation rewards than it is a standalone camo. Gary's task is completed, and you are on your way to the boss. But the compassion that you showed in the end will not go unrewarded.
