? A stipend is commonly a regular fixed payment normally made to interns, apprentices or trainees to help in covering basic living costs while in experience or schooling. A stipend is usually not as much as a salary, and is not as closely tied to the amount worked. Wages is not the rule in many educational institutions and non profit organizations.
